My goal as a licensed associate counselor is to alleviate pain or hurt as well as help my clients navigate through the obstacles of life, love, and work. I've been told that even as a child I had the natural ability to connect to others quickly, make people feel heard and offer new perspectives in a respectful way. Through my own experiences I have learned to value equality and empathy. I use a holistic approach recognizing the mind / body relationship as well as giving credit to all the roles we play throughout our lives and how each affects us.
I have been working as an advocate, confidant, and unconditional source of support to various populations for over ten years. I began this journey as a certified volunteer on a domestic violence response team. Since then, I have been empowering others to use their voices on their own personal timeline. I use motivational interviewing and person-centered approaches to assist individuals or families in setting and achieving wellness goals. I tend to use creative problem-solving and adjunct therapy techniques to promote awareness and self-recognition, for example music, arts and crafts, or narrative therapy. Majority of my career has been spent treating chronic and persistent mental illnesses with evidence-based practices like DBT and CBT.
During the first sessions, with a new client my objectives are to educate and collaborate on building a wellness toolbox and grounding skills so we can all feel capable of dealing with life's stressors. I always recommend we spend a little bit of time everyday nurturing ourselves. I hold myself accountable to be a positive role model and work just as hard on promoting my own health and wellness as you are. Some of my coping skills include spending time with my family, watching funny movies, baking sweet treats, playing card games and riding my bike outside.
