Olivia is a graduate student at Montclair State University, studying Clinical Mental Health Counseling. In addition to being a student and intern, she is a certified yoga instructor. She is currently enrolled in a training program that will provide education & experience in teaching yoga for those that have a trauma history, special needs, children/teens, prenatal/postnatal, and athletes. Through the daily practice of yoga, Olivia has learned to practice stillness, self-acceptance, healing, and gratitude. In the future, she intends to link the practices of yoga and mindfulness, with mental health counseling. Olivia believes that when we are faced with adversity, there is a great space for us to grow and thrive. In her view, counseling can guide individuals on their journey through healing and towards growth. As a former Division 1 athlete, she was able to grasp the undeniable pressures that not only athletics but, also society place on us to always "be better", oftentimes leaving us feeling as if we are not whole or "enough." Her goal as a counselor, similar to as a yoga teacher, is to leave my clients feeling empowered and that through inquiry and self-compassion, anything is possible in their lives. In addition to her yoga training, Olivia has completed training in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Health-at-every-size (HAES), and will soon (winter 2021) complete training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR).
